Activitiesbeachtrip

A full schedule of activities awaits residents who are able to participate. Activities include exercise movement, sing-along, story hour, bingo, sensory programs, creative arts, films, musical guests, entertainers, crafts, Mass, and other spiritual programs. Special outings include holiday celebrations, beach trips, fishing trips, Beaverton's Summerfest Parade and more.

  • Exercises: Larger group exercises are for residents who are able to follow directions without much cueing. These classes meet 3x/week. The Movement group is held on each unit for those residents that need more “one on one” attention and where success is measured with less difficulty. These classes meet 2x/week.
  • Group discussions: current newspaper, “good-ole-days,” stories to stimulate thoughts, opinions, recall times gone by and compare to the world today.
  • Sensory programs: for residents that may have a cognitive decline for the purpose of enhancing quality of life experience. This program involves: visual tracking - strobe light; audio - music, sound makers, and good-ole fashioned reading; tactile - touch therapy using lotion to massage hands & arms and other types of tactile stimulus.
  • Crafts: ceramics, baking, gardening, quilting; many of the items are used for the annual "Christmas Sale" hosted in the Activity Center. These crafts generate pride and build self esteem when articles are sold or resident receives praise during a class.
  • Entertainment: music creates rhythm, evokes memories, and encourages singing and “foot tapping.” Our residents especially enjoy listening to music when the “hands on crafts” are being fashioned. A Bell Choir group entertains our residents regularly. “Sing-a-Longs” are a favorite, and song fests during the holidays are provided by children and adult groups from the local area.
  • Off Campus Field Trips: some of the outings include: “Christmas Lights” tours, beach trip, picnics, fishing trips, restaurants, casino and a yearly parade in Beaverton.
  • Pet Visits: Families, friends and volunteers bring their well-behaved pets to share with the residents. The Activity Department organizes an annual dog show complete with our own Rose Festival judges and awards for categories including longest tongue, shortest tail, and loudest bark.
  • Student’s Visits: We have visitors from our three on-campus schools for our inter-generational program. The middle school 8th graders take on a year long companionship program with our residents and conclude with a celebration at the high school. At the celebration, residents receive a commemorating journal recognizing the special bond between the resident and student. We also provide the opportunity for students from local high schools and colleges to complete their “community service” hours as a school requirement.
  • Bingo: everybody’s favorite is held 3x/week.
  • Television: A large screen cable television is available in the activity room. Cable television is available in each room at Maryville.
